Overview

The multi-part international standard for OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA), a platform-independent protocol for industrial automation and IoT. Defines an information modelling framework, client-server and publish-subscribe communication, security with X.509 certificates, and transport over TCP or HTTPS. The AutoID Companion Specification extends OPC UA specifically for RFID readers, barcode scanners, and RTLS devices.

Why it matters for RFID

The standard for integrating RFID readers into manufacturing execution systems (MES), SCADA, and PLCs. The AutoID Companion Specification provides a standardised OPC UA device model for RFID readers.
